Jazz lyric writing is a style of songwriting chosen by a handful of select composers/lyricists who have dedicated themselves to this almost lost art form. Randy Klein’s witty and insightful clinic explores:
Thank you! for all your help in critiquing my work. Line-by-line, every time, I still reference the things you taught me and your "demands for a high degree of excellence" have made me a...better writer. I'm still a work in progress, but I'm getting there :)

It feels really good when I can gain insight as to what is most helpful, or needed in choosing to get feedback for my songwriting. I appreciate it, for all that it is worth. And I must say, that it is worth it's weight in gold. Whether I'm inching or making baby steps along this journey, it has all been a wonderful experience. :)

This was really helpful. I learned a lot both from Randy's feedback on my song and from his feedback on the other songs submitted. I was also very impressed by how professional, respectful and kind he was to everyone who submitted work. This created a really good learning atmosphere.

You can tell Randy has written a lot, in a lot of different styles. He definitely has a "songwriter first" approach to his coaching. He had many specific ideas musically and lyrically.

Amazing! Randy was amazing! Professional, thoughtful, prepared, personable and the depth of his analysis and constructive comments were worth my whole yearly subscription. He has a real love and passion for doing this class and stayed until 9:30pm not because he had too or there was so much left to do but because he seemed to genuinely interested.

I appreciated the courteous way that Randy instructed and felt like I had both comments about what he liked and what needed to be worked on. Before SongU., I just knew I liked to write poems/songs. Now I feel like I have somewhere to turn for instruction and also others to learn
with. Thank you!

Do your Students Ask these business questions?
The 'art of music' isn't easy. It is an internal personal struggle that is individual to each artist. To complicate the matter further, the 'business of music' isn't easy either. It is constantly changing and evolving.
Music programs in colleges and universities are teaching the basics of music and music business, and the result is a crop of musicians who are much more equipped then ever. Yet, these almost perfect environments that promote creativity with their recording studios, performance spaces, and everything hi-tech fro the aspiring musician are isolated and seem to miss the fact that there is a real world of the 'art of music' and the 'business of music'.
Klein's lectures are clinics deal with this disparity head on. Students need to know this information
